Can You Really Make Money Running Baby Classes?

baby class business career change pricing and profit Nov 11, 2025

Let’s be honest,  if you’re thinking about running baby classes, at some point you’ve probably either asked yourself or someone else has asked you this question, “But can you actually make money doing it?”

I get asked this all the time, and I love that question because it tells me you’re serious. You’re not looking for a hobby. You’re looking for a career change, something that fits around family life, and actually pays the bills.

So let’s talk numbers, realities, and what it really takes to earn a living from baby classes without joining a franchise.

1. The Truth: Yes, you absolutely can — but not by guessing

I’ve been in this industry for over 20 years, and I’ve seen women earn anything from pocket money to full-time salaries. The difference isn’t luck. It’s planning, pricing, and understanding how to make your classes both profitable and sustainable.

Winging it and hoping isn't going to work long term, isn't really the answer short term if I'm honest! You need to know how many families you need each week to cover all your costs, what to charge, and where your break-even point sits. Once you have that, everything else falls into place so much easier.

That’s exactly why I created my free Baby Class Income Calculator it shows you in black and white what your numbers could look like before you ever book a venue.

Once you’ve explored your potential profit, the next question is usually what it actually costs to get started and I’ve broken that down clearly in my post on How Much Does It Cost to Start Baby Classes.

2. Common mistakes I see most new baby class teachers get wrong

They think busy equals profitable.

They run classes that may look full, but by the time hall hire, insurance, props, and music licences are paid, they’re barely covering the minimum wage. Then they keep adding new venues, new classes rather than focusing on building a smaller number to capacity with waiting lists.

Full classes mean more profit.

Fewer classes, done brilliantly will take you much further than constant expansion of territory reach.

The fix? Stop copying what everyone else charges. Start charging based on what your business actually costs to run. That’s part maths, part mindset and it’s something I go deep on inside The Baby Class Blueprint, my accredited online baby class teacher training course.

3. The beauty of independent baby classes

Running your classes as an independent baby class teacher ie you don't join a franchise or buy a licence means you have absolute control of your brand, timetable, and all the profits.
You decide when and how much you work.  Franchises often have minimum number of classes built into the franchise agreement.  So if you want to work three mornings a week and still have afternoons at home with your little one, you can.
You can build your class timetable around school runs (I did exactly that) And because it’s your business, every new family you welcome is yours, not a franchise’s and you won't have to pay more money to anyone the more successful you get.

Freedom and flexibility aren’t just marketing words here — they’re real.

4. The growth potential (and what it really looks like in real life)

Once your foundations are set and solid, scaling becomes simple:

  • Add one more class per week

  • Open a second venue

  • Offer special events or termly workshops

  • Or bring in another teacher when you’re ready

That’s how women inside The Baby Class Blueprint move from one class to a thriving, fully booked business, step by step, with calm, confidence, clarity, not chaotic flying by the seat of their pants, firefighting

If you’d like to see how I structure some of those developmental activities, you’ll enjoy my post on Bubbles : Developmental Benefits in Baby Classes it’s a simple prop with huge learning value.

5. So … can you really make money running baby classes?

Yes. But it’s not magic or luck, it’s strategy, pricing, and purpose.
If you love the idea of helping babies learn through music and sensory play and supporting new parents, and you’re ready to build a business that works for you, then the answer is absolutely yes.

You just need a plan that actually works in the real world and if you're still in the planning stage, you might find my post on how much it really costs to start baby classes useful
